The Kingdom of Heaven Within the Self

The Parable of the Hidden Treasure and the Pearl

44 “The kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field. When a man found it, he hid it again, and then in his joy went and sold all he had and bought that field.

45 “Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant looking for fine pearls. 46 When he found one of great value, he went away and sold everything he had and bought it.

~~~~ Teaching of Jesus in the Gospel of Matthew chapter
13,verses 44-46 ~~~~~
A beautiful straightforward message of Jesus pointing in the direction of the treasures within each of us.All teachers of Truth will attest that there is nothing outside of ourselves that will bring everlasting True Joy/Happiness,everything we need is already within!We need only to be reminded as we have forgotten,lost in the quagmire of life.
As per the two parables above both illustrate how wisdom paved the way of these two men who have awakened to understand that they have so much beauty and goodness within that they strove with all their might to conserve their energy,to let go of all unnecessary wasteful activities/burdens in order to uncover the jewels within themselves.
Like the wise men in the parables, we too can and will do the same.When we have discovered the precious jewels within,we truly will have arrived Home to our True Self and will have found the eternal life as Jesus has referred to a few times as the Kingdom of Heaven within!
Heaven as we may have been taught or indoctrinated to believe in is a place somewhere we go to after physical death if we have been good in our earthly life.In truth, heaven is that eternal joyful state of awakened luminosity that we hold and experience within ourselves and we readily and happily want to share with others right here and now…not at a future time or a fantasy place!
The teachings of Jesus and all spiritual teachers of past and present spread to all of humanity and not only to a select few people of any particular religious tradition/background.As all of humanity is connected in Universal Consciousness and the Heart in Love.
What each becomes after uncovering and discovering the treasures,is left to be …a healer,a therapist/counselor, a teacher of truth, a writer, a hermit,a householder,a benevolent servant of charity, a faithful friend, a lover,etc.Each will definitely be of help and benefit in spreading goodwill and the raising of sublime consciousness to perhaps just one person or for the 7 billion people globally.
Becoming Conscious of Your True Nature
Becoming Conscious of your True Nature
The most truthful, promising and sustaining part of our lives is in the knowing that each and everyone of us,human being has that Buddha,Christ,Luminous(Pure)Consciousness Within. No matter how dark a state we may superficially/temporarily be living in,whenever we are ready,courageous and willing to allow Light to enter and open out from within, we can and will do it!Everyone is able to make this journey wherever we are at,right here and now.There is no special requirements/pre-requisites or think that we must be holy,pure,spiritually healthy or be affliated to any one religious tradition.Nor think that we must be single and have free time,or have to leave our jobs and family and friends or perhaps go to a monastery/convent/ashram or far away remote place and find a guru,teacher etc.In anything that we want to do,we must first be willing to make an effort to give ourselves the chance to be open to try, to experience,have a healthy desire to learn and gain knowledge of truth and wisdom.In this instance to wake up to the consciousness of knowing who we truly are! Without knowing who we are,we are truly walking blindfolded and fumbling our way around in this journey of life(being hurt and hurting others),so to speak.And thats why in this fumblings,we readily succumb to fear of all sorts. And because we do not know who we are, we distrust others,become suspicious/cynical and limited/conditioned in our way of living,afraid of giving,sharing and opening up to accept the whatever may be situations with responsibilities instead of blaming and fighting against something or another.
The journey into ourselves entails so much ineffable beauty to GAIN and witness with NOTHING to lose! The only things we will lose are our restless minds,ignorance,unhealthy attachments/desires,greed and hatred together with all afflicted states that block the path to loving-kindness,joyful and peaceful,wholesome and wise living which perpetuates happiness and non-harming(in thoughts,words and deeds) for all.
When we have gained that magnificent access into the core of our being,Love,wisdom and joy are uncovered and can never again be buried.Thus Living becomes fearless,meaningful and purposeful with freedom from unnecessary suffering(no limitations and conditioning).Light,truth and Joy are open for all humanity to gain from however in a big or small way!
While I was on the inward spiritual journey into myself, I did not go away or have direct personal teaching from any one spiritual teacher,nor did I leave my job,my family and friends.I was going through the journey alone by myself with access to many teachers by way of books/media at the same time going to work at the hospital, serving charitably on the streets,wherever/whenever I could in any way.I still opened myself to going and being present during social gatherings of friends and families.I travelled and spent a whole lot of time in nature to be alone in disciplined self-meditative retreats.I enjoyed very much being alone with my own company without fear of loneliness and boredom(there are so much exhilarating moments when knowing yourself).Most importantly, I allowed life itself,however much hardships(from difficult/harsh/mean people and situations) and joyful moments that I faced teach me to venture and look deeper into myself for answers of truth.I was also courageously learning to let things, people and situations go that serve no more purpose in the ongoing inward journey.
When we are unafraid of facing the Truth, it sets us free from ignorance and suffering.For no one will come to save us!In truth the teachings, sharing and reminders of all enlightened teachers,gurus,sages and saints eg.Jesus, Buddha,Krishna, etc.can only point us to the direction of truth(that might help us to save ourselves).Thus when we wake up to its true message,we ourselves will heal and awaken our consciousness especially so in a world that is chaotic ,confused and terribly troubled!
Who Am I
Who Am I
When we want knowledge of truth,we ask wise questions…and not be perturbed to hear the answers!
Do you dare sit courageously and perserveringly and ask these 2 pertinent questions of your own self..
“who am I?”
“what do I truly want?”
We go deep into the Heart for the answers and not from the level of the mind.
Can we ask…am I of a partticular sect of religion, a man, a woman, a mother/father,am I doctor, a nurse, a businessman,rich/not so rich,good/bad,etc…are we truly anything we identify with??keep asking to go within the self in quiet reflection.
Do we honestly want to be only selfishly happy, loved and at peace OR …keep asking…
Waking Up to Truth
Waking up to Truth
Most of us have heard this saying…’ignorance is bliss’.It can also mean to be oblivious to be open to the Truth.We tend to be afraid of knowing what is true,the truth that we keep hidden within the recesses of our being,we can call this our ‘dark secrets’.Playing ignorant and pretentious of our lives.This help protect our ‘cushy’lifestyle and keep us safe in our comfort-zones with people, materialistic ways of living and situations(pleasant or unpleasant) we are used to surrounding ourselves with.
Most often,these comfort-zones that we hold-on to no longer serve us meaningfully or give us purposeful living.Yet we go on wasting energy pretending to enjoy and be seemingly happy with our lives on the surface.In truth, the undercurrent within us is in turmoil and disturbed,yet we find ourselves denying this truth.
We need answers,we need comfort,we need knowledge,a direction,a guidance to the truth of our purpose in Life!
Yet we dismiss and ignore the very very quiet nudging that beckons us to take stock,to halt and listen,to pay attention,to relax and care for our true needs.
We are in truth succumbing to the fear of losses, rejection,more pain and enduring suffering,of changes,of being ridiculed and taunted and of the mysterious unknown!And there is also the fact and difficult task of ‘how to begin and what to do!’
I faced these dilemmas most of my life, knowing quietly that I was intensely suffering,yet not knowing how to deal with it,what to do with the truth of my suffering.The more I struggled with suffering,the more it seemed to follow me and caused me more anger and hatred of myself.I was in fact truly ignorantly looking for permanent happiness and love,to be loved and to love!I didn’t realize at the time that Love and happiness were already within me and this separation and ignorance caused so much more pain and suffering.
How did I begin the waking up to truth?
I had to acknowledge and admit firstly that I was indeed suffering and trying hard to suppress its toxicity and being dangerous to myself and others.Here being dangerous means that as we unconsciously suffer needlessly,we impose our pain upon others either unconsciously or deliberately to cause suffering in ways of anger, hatred(usually directed at self) or even by drastic measures in ways of violence,addictions/obsessions,mental,emotional,sexual abuses,spiritually dead and depression leading to various mental incapacities and eventual insanity.
I had to sincerely learn with devotion(faith) to steadfastly surrender the ignorance and seek the help needed to be freed from pain and suffering. I went fervently on a daily basis to sit in reflection of my life in a quiet church and pour out my heartaches and foolishness into the unknown.And as I sat, I realized I was delving deeply into my being,witnessing the truth of myself.This endeavour became the start of meditation practices…a true Love affair with myself.This sublime process drew me deeper into myself,seeing all my imperfections, flaws,mistakes,hidden ‘dark secrets’as well as goodness.Instead of judging and churning negative criticism of myself……I started opening up to compassion and forgiveness of myself.Tears flowed profusely in remorse and shame and of knee high buried guilt.All I could do was embrace myself with humble courage/strength of facing the truth,freeing/releasing myself of denials and holding on to toxic afflicted energies.
As I meditated to know my true self,I loved myself for the courage and the truth that I was able to face.And this truth in return sets us all free from unnecessary/wasteful suffering.
We valiantly take the lancet to pierce through and drain the poisonous pus(the cause of pain and suffering) out of our ‘infected boil’ within ,thus making way for true healing!
Nothing will last Forever
Nothing last Forever
When we experience any kind of loss,despair and disappointments….we grieve,we feel the aching of the heart, anger arises,we hurt,we mourn and perhaps torment others and ourselves further.The sadness looms indefinitely!
—Do we want it to last forever?
—Will it last forever?
When we experience happiness,we laugh,we feel ‘high and frivolous’,we feel ecstatic,we celebrate,we smile and perhaps wastefully treat others.
—Can it last forever?
—Will it last forever?
When the mind is busy nattering and chattering with non-stop worries,fabricating stories of past remembraces and drifting with anxiety over future endeavours.
—Do we want it to last forever?
—Will it last forever?
When we witness suffering within us, around us and to those close and dear to us.
—Do we want it to last forever?
—Will it last forever?
Will we want only to be an island of selfish happiness surrounded by an ocean of misery?Or can and will we make a change and be a lighthouse of selfless love, wisdom, joy,kindness and peace to share with others and be a source of comfort,strength,courage and hope for ourselves and others?
Could we perhaps reflect…does our happiness depend on others or external circumstances or can we have a glimpse of bringing it out from Within?
Allow the Heart to be Broken
Let the Heart be broken
Whatever we need to feel in this moment,we allow ourselves to feel.Let the pain,grief, hurt,disappointments,loss,betrayals and joys open the path into the Heart and break open its door.Let yourself be not afraid of opening into the heart,for it is wise and knows how to fully feel its capacity and work its way to healing.When we fear to break the Heart,we block the True path to God(Love).
When we are so habitually dependent to identify with and believe on the state of the troubled mind,we find ways only to escape the afflictions thus prolonging pain and suffering.We are thus kept trapped in clinging and hankering for happy, pleasureable and false enticements…..
No matter what we may think,feel or believe ourselves to be,we are Pure energy of Love and Consciousness,incapable of deliberate injurious intentions! And while we travel along the journey of life,we have a sole purpose to find our way into the Heart to witness,be and live that Truth of who we Truly are! And so we can assist to make the world around us a brighter place to be in for ourselves and all those who live in it.
Can we truly reflect on this…..if we do not have love,joy and kindness to offer of ourselves…who or what are we?
The Call to Love
And how do we bring Love into the world?We first begin to become aware of our own lives,in our interaction with others….are we a source of kindness and loving presence?What and how do we feel truly about ourselves and how can we make a difference or a change?
We live each moment to the invitation and openness of Love.We are infinitely called to be kind, to practice charity/compassion,to respect and understand,to exude simplistic joy and selflessness,to offer and ask forgiveness for ourselves and others.These are the hardest/toughest yet the greatest ‘mountains’we need to animate(move with faith, courage,trust,humility) within ourselves to awaken us into the realm of Conscious Living!We each have that Power of a tender, wise heart to open up into the path of enlightenment,thus benefitting ourselves and others.
The Warrior Without an Enemy
The Warrior without an Enemy
I Am that warrior who fights without a sword,
I Am that warrior who is protected without a shield,
I Am that warrior who sees no enemies around me,
I Am that warrior whose purpose is to slay the ‘demons’within me,
I Am that warrior who champions fearlessly for Love,without prize or crown,
I Am that warrior who knows suffering and who seeks only to spread awareness of its wastefulness!
Forgiving Power
Forgiving Power
In order to facilitate inner forgiveness for ourselves
or toward others, we need the strength and courage to
be humble, to allow the heart’s capacity to fully open,
and to bring down all barriers that had blocked the
heart from tenderizing, from loving, and from being
charitable. Humility aids the heart to soften, to be
pliable, to yield toward gentleness, and to be open to
learn from past mistakes.
In December 1998, while still in the beginning
stage of my journey of spiritual revelations, I used to
occasionally spend time with Sister Marilyn of the Grey
Nun Congregation. One time, I poured out some of my
past transgressions to her. She then asked me straight on
if I was willing to put down the heavy load that I was
carrying. Without hesitation, I said a firm “YES.” She
then asked if I would like to make a personal confession
with her friend, a monsignor at the chancery office of
the Holy Rosary Cathedral in Vancouver. I humbly and
wholeheartedly agreed.
I remembered the day, it was
sometime in late December 1998, and I must have spent
more than an hour in confession with Monsignor Smith.
It was to be my last Catholic rite of confession. I was
crying throughout the confessional time with heartfelt
shame and deep remorse for my past actions. Monsignor
was very empathetic and comforting toward me. He
pointed to a framed picture on the wall depicting a
scene showing Jesus throwing a life-saving buoy to a
drowning man in a perilous sea. I remembered feeling
free and relieved upon looking at the picture; it was a
knowing inside of me that was saying, “I am turning
my back toward the past and starting anew.” I walked
out of his office and into the Vancouver December rain.
I felt washed clean and joyful, and the peace gave me
the courage to say, “I want to make amends and never
to be that same person again.”
Meeting ourselves
Meeting ourselves
There is a kaleidoscope of beauty we can meet within us when we truly sit in mindful breathing, contemplation/meditation to be aware of ourselves.Whatever our external circumstances are,we have these precious gems of Love, Wisdom and Joy within awaiting to be witnessed and utilized.Instead of discounting all the beauty we are, we can start opening up to it and make it a reality,to activate it in various ways and be creative when we have a glimpse of it.
That’s how we can start breaking the barriers down from our hearts that blocks us from truly living fearlessly,truthfully and wholesomely!
